Starting to warm up here in the desert. Melons are growing and harvest still looks like mid month.
Last water on some garlic. We are a little ehind because early spring temps were below normal.
Good weather for the wheat crop.
Tractors are getting started for the heavy ground prep for next winter vegetable crops.
Diesel prices last year at this time were $3.53 and now we are paying $1.64......This is Good!
We are now on water allocation. Food safety, even though we are not harvesting now, is still an issue. Looking at fields for next year that will not have any problems with the metrics.
Budgets being prepared for next years joint ventures. We will be making the annual trips to Salinas this summer negotiating for the winter deals. Trying to get one penny increase is like pulling teeth!
Our relocation from El Centro to Holtville is finally complete with the farm shop and the office. To get into the spirit, we will be hosting the May Holtville Chamber Mixer.
Holtville’s Finley Grammar School christened it’s Garden In Every School. Through the WGA’s charitable foundation, with a grant from Vessey and Company, Inc. we would also like to thank 4-H for their participation.
From the Farm,
