Where did November go? I can’t use the excuse I was too busy. So I’ll try and catch you all up with the December Newsletter.
Harvest is in full swing now and Thank God the markets are doing well. Supply and demand works in funny ways.
Warm wather in the East (increases demand) cold weather in our fields reduces supply. We need more ice! Iceberg lettuce is in short supply caused mostly by light weights in the bins. We are also ahead of harvest which will cause lesser yeields. Get it while the getting is good. Markets don’t last forever.![]()

High markets cause stress; believe it or not. The eternal triangle comes into play. There are three people who either claim responsibility for our good fortune or belittle the contribution of their co-worker. The GROWER, The HARVESTER, and the SALESMAN. Ask any of them who is more important and you will get 3 different answers. I love competition. All 3 of them need each other.
You will notice in our photos, that we feature Eric Pompa, our salesman. He was complaining that everyone had their picture in our web site except him. Ok, you’re important too.![]()

"California Leafy Greens Handler Marketing Agreement" is a success. Arizona is on board also. Next step is a Federal order. we have regained the confindence with the consumer. We do supply the safest produce in the World.
How can you talk about harvest without mentioning labor? We are very fortunate to have great people who work very hard. Last week was the "FARM WORKER APPRECIATION BREAKFAST" held in the early morning hours in Calexico. Vessey & Company, Inc. being one of the many sponsors.
There is a great website I recommend highly. www.producepedia.com. It is full of nutritional information on your favorite fruits and vegetables. This website serves to familiarize the public with fruits, vegetables and nuts to encourage healthy eating habits and to connect them with people like us!
Things move very fast in the Produce Business....by the time you read this the markets may have crashed or we could have 80 degree days....crazy business!
